A Major Success for Climate-Focused Space Innovation
Earlier this month, MERLIN – the German-French satellite mission to monitor methane emissions from space – was successfully presented at the Paris Air Show 2025, held at Le Bourget. MERLIN was showcased at the DLR stand in Hall 2C, Booth C357, drawing strong interest from international visitors, including scientists, engineers, and climate policy stakeholders.
A Breakthrough in Greenhouse Gas Monitoring
Developed in partnership between DLR and CNES, MERLIN (Methane Remote Sensing LIDAR Mission) uses spaceborne LIDAR technology to measure atmospheric methane concentrations with unprecedented accuracy. The mission is designed to support global efforts in tracking and reducing methane emissions — a greenhouse gas that is over 80 times more potent than CO₂ over a 20-year period.
