MERLIN at Paris Air Show and ESA Symposium

MERLIN, the European pioneer in space-based active remote methane detection, is set to present its latest advancements at two major events this June:

Visitors can explore how the Franco-German satellite will use active remote sensing to measure atmospheric methane with unprecedented precision.

55th International Paris Air Show

At the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, the team arround MERLIN will inform about the mission status and its ability to monitor methane emissions from space. Therefore, visitors are invited to explore the mission’s role in climate change mitigation and industrial emissions tracking.

ESA Living Planet Symposium

Right after the Paris Air Show, Merlin will be featured at the ESA Living Planet Symposium in Vienna, where leading experts in Earth observation will gather. The team will provide an overview of the MERLIN mission, discuss its expected performances, together with the plans and needs for validation activities.

  • Session A.03.06 on June 24: Estimating methane fluxes from Arctic-boreal wetlands using observations from the CoMet 2.0 Arctic airborne mission (presentation)
  • Session A.03.06 on June 24: Wetland and anthropogenic emissions methane and carbon dioxide: Results and lessons learned from the MAGIC international campaigns and plans for future deployment in Brazil (poster)
  • Session A.04.03 on June 25: Measuring natural methane fluxes with the French-German Methane Remote Sensing LIDAR Mission MERLIN (poster)
  • Session A.04.01 – part 2 on June 25: Inverse Modelling of CH4 Emissions in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin Using WRF and Airborne Lidar (presentation)

The Satellite mission MERLIN is a joint project by CNES and DLR and targets the detection of methane—one of the most potent greenhouse gases. With advanced laser technology, the satellite scans the Earth’s surface and provides vital data to scientists and policymakers.

These upcoming events offer the perfect chance to learn more about MERLIN’s technology, science goals, and pre-validation activities. As climate change accelerates, missions like MERLIN are essential for understanding and managing its effects.

Don’t miss the opportunity to connect with the MERLIN team at these major events and discover how space-based innovation supports climate action on Earth.
