Many countries developed national strategies for large-scale hydrogen production, to decarbonizate the energy sector. However, a larger produktions of hydrogen may lead to higher or lower CH4 levels depending on the amount of hydrogen lost to the atmosphere. A new modelling study, published in Nature by Matteo Bertagni and collegues, investigated the risks of enhancing atmospheric CH4 concentrations by losses throughout the value chain of hydrogen production as green or blue H2.
